Team Training Update – Farmers, Learners, and Future Educators
This week, our team took part in a knowledge refresh program with a focus on sensory evaluation and roasting, guided by the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) system. From hands-on cupping to systemized roasting sessions, we deepened our understanding of coffee quality and consistency.
As farmers, we actively seek out opportunities to exchange knowledge with industry experts. And on this journey of learning, we’re also building the foundation to become educators ourselves.
Ready to pass on the stories, techniques, and values behind each cup of coffee to our community and, most importantly, to our customers.
Phung Ha Long.
We believe education is not a destination, but a continuous path — and we’re proud to walk that path with our team, our guru, our friends, and you.
What is Sensory Skills Training?
The SCA Sensory Skills module is a global standard that trains coffee professionals to: Identify and describe coffee attributes through calibrated cupping protocols Develop a shared sensory language using tools like the Coffee Taster’s Flavor Wheel and intensity scales Understand how aroma, acidity, body, balance, and aftertaste are evaluated objectively Use triangulation and blind tasting methods to improve sensory accuracy Apply sensory evaluation to quality control and product development

As farmers who work from bean to brew, we want to keep learning. But just as importantly, we want to start sharing. We believe that education should not stop at experts — it should reach everyone who drinks coffee.
That’s why this journey matters. By building our own understanding, we’re also laying the groundwork to become educators — for our customers, for young farmers, for curious baristas, and for anyone who wants to know what lies behind a truly great cup.
At Designer Coffee, sensory isn’t just a skill — it’s a bridge. Between farm and café. Between tradition and innovation. Between us and you.
Stay tuned. This is only the beginning of our sensory journey — and we’re taking you with us, one sip at a time.
